The colors of the dying sun linger among the clouds,
before they bleed and streak into the nighttime’s gloom.
As the star falls and a frail dusk exhumes from its light,
I drop onto my knees and entreat the violet sky.
The winter wind mocks my pleas by changing its direction again;
the stretching shadows melt into a sea that drowns
the earth in darkness, starving the plants and attacking my vision.
It leaves me bereaved; a severed trunk among the trees,
mourning a point of light that will outlive my cries for a torpid world.
Traveling in the midnight fog, I pass beneath a thousand false suns
that listlessly control my movements, like the lazy hand of god.

Redirected Shadows
Her tenebrous construction glides shamelessly
across the felled dead leaves
that lend their dew to deepen the redness of her dress;
Invisible beneath the clouded starlight
she ties herself to the forest floor,
with roots and poison ivy,
so to reunite with some greener soul.
Lying in the darkness, she ignites;
The redirected shadows tremble, but cannot flee,
for they too are tied by roots and vines.
Flesh, like cloth, burns and casts an enchanted light
before its ashen flakes disperse,
as if a part of the disentangled umbrage.
